BLM asks for input to update fire plans statewide

(Santa Fe-AP) -- The Bureau of Land Management wants to know
what you think about managing fire in New Mexico.
The agency is revamping its fire management policies and asking
residents for their opinions.
Agency officials are traveling statewide to talk with local
authorities and the public about its current management plan and
ways to improve it.
Federal law requires the B-L-M to draft a new resource
management plan by September 2004.
It will guide the agency's area offices as they craft their own
fire management policies.
The agency is holding public meetings statewide through June.
A draft plan and accompanying environmental assessment will be
distributed by next June.
