BELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) -- A Bell County volunteer firefighter has died after fighting a brush fire.

According to a Facebook post by the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department, Rodney Collett died Thursday from injuries he received fighting a brush fire last week.

The Bell County Volunteer Fire Department tells LEX 18 that Rodney Collett was out fighting a brush fire with the Redbird Volunteer Department. They believe he got out of his truck, walked to the back of it and started spraying water on a tree. That's when the tree fell on top of the truck and hit Collett in the process.

"Rodney was a member of the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department and also a member of Redbird Volunteer Fire Department. Rodney was a great man and had one of the biggest hearts you will ever find and loved serving his community," reads the post.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
