I bet you still believe "free" market forces are in effect in this industry. Don't you?

Considering the billions oil companies currently receive via subsidies and credits it's probably a brilliant move on their part.

All it's doing is taking money FROM the oil companies so the public can give it right BACK to the oil companies.
Barack Obama is a snake oil salesman if that gets done.

Once again I state the reality of the only offshore drilling locale that prevented them was off the coast of FL during the tenure of the enviro wacko Jeb Bush.

Don't forget the coast of California that has been restricted for years from newer drilling.

SC, Newt runs a conservative think tank and exerts a huge HUGE amount of influence on current republican policy. The whole "drill here-drill now-pay less" came via his direct influence on the party. Here in Houston during the GOP convention his name was everywhere and on everything it seemed.
Perhaps you do not get the NRSC newsletter, or the GOP's....but Newts: Winning the Future through Human Events newsletter has been very influential in the current political debate and is highly respected in political circles.
SC, perhaps you do not subscribe to the same circles of discourse that conservatives do but i assure you Newt is far from being non-influential.
See ya.

I know that's a shock to you, but the truth always is. And that doesn't even include the record deficits Reagan left as his legacy.

Besides, how can we blame Corporate America for being addicted to subsidies. It's basically welfare for business, and we all know what it's like getting someone off of welfare; it's only going to happen to those who want off of it.

Take drilling for oil off-shore or in AMWR. The democrats opposed it 10 years ago. Now, here we are 10 years later, and they still oppose it. One of the reasons they give, it will take 10 years. SO, if we hadn't listened to them 10 years ago we would be seeing that oil now. But because the Republican want t oopen up more drilling areas, the Democrats feel obligated to oppose it, even though it is the right thing to do.

The Democrat's way of thinking goes something like this. The Republicans want off-shore drilling, I'm a Democrat and must oppose, even if it is the right thing to do.
