It isn't really about the type of dog as much as it is about supporting a brother ... or in this case a sister (who we don't know) and a brother (who we do know).

RUBY CAME TO ME AT MY FIRE STATION LAST DECEMBER. OUR ANIMAL CONTROL DEPT. HAD RESCUED RUBY FROM AN OWNER WHO DID NOT FEED HER, SHE WAS 24 LBS. AT 6 MONTHS OLD. THEY HAD TIED HER TO A TREE, AND HER COLLAR HAD CUT INTO HER NECK, HER LOVE OF PEOPLE SAVED HER LIFE AS SHE BROKE THE COLLAR ON HER RAW, OPEN NECK TO GO SEE A CONSTRUCTION WORKER.SHE HAD 7 SURGERIES TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE. THE CUT WAS DOWN TO HER TRACHEA. SINCE I HAVE HAD HER SHE HAS GAINED 20 MORE POUNDS, WITH GOING THROUGH ALL OF THAT, SHE HAS NOT LOST HER LOVE FOR HUMANS. SHE LOVES KIDS AND VISITS OUR FARM OFTEN. AS SHE DOESN'T LET THE HORROR SHE WENT THROUGH, AFFECT HER LOVE FOR PEOPLE.SHE IS MY HERO.

Although Jiggs and his owner are not related to the fire service, because DAL asked us to support them, that's good enough for me.
