I just finished a year in an engine that does H/M. For the next two weeks I'm the boat officer on my shift. Manning is a captain & 2 ff's 24/7. For anything more than a person or two in the water an engine,or engine and truck if need be, supplements the crew.

Kewel.12 years ago,I got my 100 ton Master's license for the Western Rivers.I mostly ran crewboats here in Memphis about that size but I got to run towboats up to 100 tons gross weight.
Just remember, the pointy end goes first, and will go in the direction that you turn the shiny wheel in the wheelhouse.Generally, this is turn it left to go left and turn it to the right to go right.
The levers next to the wheel,if you push them towards the front of the boat will make it go faster. The closer they are to you the slower the boat goes.If they pass the midpoint and point towards you,you can actually make the boat go backwards.
Seriously, keep the running lights(red, green and white lights)burning whenever underway, use the radar and your eyes at all times and when coming alongside the dock or another vessel, take it slow and don't get the nickname"Captain Crunch".
