So my first week is complete and Im lovin it (so far). All went well, except that I slept through my first call out (Chief wasnt impressed). Left the pager on vibrate. Oh well, rookie mistake.
I had a rather un-easy feeling last Sunday night, wondering if I made the right choice. But now Im sure I did.
Thanks again for all the encouragement and kind words!
Congrats Dave, Now I'm going to have to turn my back on you. j/k
OUCH...
Thanks for all the kind words. Now that Ive had a few days to let it sink in Im really excited. It sure felt good knowing that Thursday was the last holiday away from the family.
Well...after almost 24 years, Ive decided to give up the BRT. Ive accepted a promotion and will now be part of...of...of...admin.
Ill be running our fire prevention division. Its a nice raise, and I even get a car (lol), but Im sure Ill miss shift work. After all these years, M-F, 8-5 is going to take some getting used too.
Wish me luck Bro's, Ill need it. I just hope the crossed buggles wont short out my brain.
My first reaction was "Holy ****" .... never expected that!
CONGRATULATIONS, DAVE! I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision. Have fun
Congratulations Dave. I moved from rotating shifts (after 16 years) to the dark side 6 years ago. I sometimes miss being on the engine, and especially the nights and weekends-thats when we had the most fun. I do not miss the "smells and bells" calls.
It took me a few months to get used to the new schedule. The biggest benefit for me is being able to attend activities with my family instead of getting stuck in the firehouse.
