BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A rare early October snowstorm downed tree
limbs and toppled power lines Thursday night, leaving nearly more
          than 155,000 customers without electricity.
Between 3 and 4 inches of snow fell in most areas around
Buffalo, with some spots expected to receive 6 to 12 inches by
          Friday morning, officials said.
The heavy snowfall at this time of year is almost
"unprecedented," said Tom Niziol, a meteorologist with the
          National Weather Service.
"This is an extremely rare event for this early in the
          season," Niziol said.
Buffalo Niagara International Airport, which received 5.1
inches, shut down for less than two hours late Thursday.
National Grid was working into the night to restore power to the
thousands of customers left in the dark, but many were expected to
be without power through the weekend and into next week, spokesman
          Steve Brady said.
"This is extremely heavy snow and most of the trees still have
most of their leaves ... we can't do a complete damage assessment
until the snow stops falling," said Steve Brady.

The heavy frost on the car this AM was bad enough. I don't want to have to shovel snow just yet.
The earliest it's snowed here that I can remember is Oct 4, 1987. 2 feet of snow, lost power for days, and a HUGE mess of trees down...Thanks to all the leaves still being on.

No snow here, but cold enough this morn for me to wear my windbreaker uniform jacket in. And most certainly NOT COLD enough to be wearing a fleece lined, down filled winter coat and ski glove, as I noted one person was dress on the Metro...... You'd a figured it was MINUS 40 with wind and blowing snow or something LOL

I guess I should not say that I was out in a t-shirt and jeans today. It is a bit cloudy but still nice.

                      I feel your pain mcfd45.

It's only a matter of time before the snow starts here.

Actually, I don't mind snow; I mind any temperature lower than -20*c.

Please feel free to keep all of the snow to yourself, I'm in no hurry to run those 2 AM flue fires.

Sunny downtown Sydney, Australia is expecting a nice balmy 37 degrees celsius. Might not mean much to you yanks but i think the canadans here might understand. And its still spring... Nasty summer ahead. I dont think a number of weeks with temperatures around the mid 40's are out of the question.

PS. Just did a conversion for you yanks: its 98.6 degrees fahrenheit. For those of you that think we dont get bad summers here: 45 celsius is 113 fahrenheit.

For all the life of me, i cant see a firefighter going to hell. At least not for very long. We would end up putting out all the fires and annoying the devil too much.
