Scanner Question.......

Does anyone have a Radio Shack brand Pro-97? I recently got one and I have a question about the internal battery charger. Is it a smartcharger that will shutoff when the batteries are charged completely? I put 4 Sanyo 2500mAH AA's in it and the day before yesterday they were pretty warm after being in the scanner and plugged in over night. Then last night I checked and they were still warm but not as warm.

BTW, this is my first scanner and IT IS AWESOME!!!!! Granted I don't have anything to compare it too. I got the Win97 program was had the scanner programmed just the way I wanted it in no time. I still have add the conservation department frequecies though.

They wouldn't design the product to toast itself. It is likely the charger is not that complex and the batteries will only draw what they need and can hold. They will always be warm when power is applied however that doesn't mean they are being fried.

That batteries are spares for a custom Super Maglite that I have. They are Sanyo Ni-MH 2500 mAH AA's. Deffinately rechargable. They are the same ones that I used in this battery carrier for my flashlight.

I've got a bearcat and I know mine has a little switch for using the provided rechargeable batteries vs. using regular batteries. Might be something to check.

I used to have a radio shack scanner, it too had that little switch bobbymurphy spoke about. I prefer a Bearcat over a Radioshack scanner anyday. I also like www.radioreference.com

if there is no little switch, assume it will try to recharge whatever is in there.

I have an old 30ch radioshack scanner. It has 2 jacks on it. One for power and one for charging.

I've also had the pro-95 and 96. They had a yellow battery holder for rechargeable and a black one for standard batteries. That will make a difference. Good radios, but I sold them off for my new baby- BCD396T.

Mine has the two carriers. The yellow has an extra contact point for recharging. I have since learned that their is not shutoff on the charger and the batteries will overcharge if left in the radio. No biggie.

Its like a helmet not a phenix then you have nothing. Same as the ALF or KME nothing still.
