Add to that, I am the floor warden for this area so I have to get these people out. One guy stops to a make a coffee even as I tell him to get out (and he still made it) this is not a test and I can't leave till I make sure this area is clear.
We have similar problems here in the Embassy with the civilian DFAIT staff. Apparently their work is more important than their lives when the alarm goes off. Oh well. One day it will be a real live emergency, and I'll be able to really kick *****es to get them out safely.

Last time it went off, as I was checking all the offices to make sure they were empty, one of the senior directors was still in his office playing on his computer. I flat out ordered him "You have to leave now. Get out"

Not very often you get to do that to a director (and one who is a pri*k ).

I had just the opposite sometime back when we ran a call in a Government Building for a Heart Attack. I go running in with the AED while about four others had an Aid Bag, O2, Suction Unit, Etc. A Guard on an Ego Trip was screaming at us that we had to sign in at the Security Desk and get Visitor's Passes. He was told to get out of our way or else. He apparently thought better of trying to stop us and sat down and started yelling at someone on the radio........... I don't know if he still has a job there or not..........

        • Harve, you should buy that guard a pen with your Department's name on it so he could sign you in automatically. Have him write "911."

          • Coming to work this morning, the air is so bad here with all the fires burning in parts of CA, the sun was just a big red dot in a sky that is completely white haze. This is the first time I can rememeber the air quality beong lowered to "unhealthy" here. This is like being back in Los Angels on a bad air day.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the firefighters who are battling all the blazes here. Stay safe and take care out there.

            • Not to worry about smog or forest fires or anything else ever again.

CERN is going to start their supercollider in August and the resulting black hole will pretty much take care of everything.

So it's "So long and thanks for all the fish!" time here on Earth.

I thought that it is supposed to create a new sun, thus burning a hole into the Earth's core, creating a massive volcano which would, combined with the new mini-sun, burn the Earth to ashes. I'm stocking up on ice, beer, and weiners..

                    • I wonder what the scientist will do when they flip the switch, and suddenly, without warning...Nothing happens? Then What? I'd like to try some experiments such as hurling two steel bolts at each other in the magnetic ring, and try to fuse them together with the friction of their collision. Also, it's a good thing that airplanes are mostly aluminum, because, if one were steel, and flew over the magnetic coils, it might get sucked into the ground.
I remember when they talked about possibly building the "super conducting super collider" in my area. Of course, we didn't get selected.. That may be a good thing. We might actually have a few minutes to say "oops!" Or more likely--"OH SH**!" if it all goes bad.

That would depend on how the Earth's implosion would effect the international space station. I'm sure, at least for a few days, they could come up with something. I hope they have plenty of food. Some of the speculation and theory behind what they will learn from the "machine" reminds me of the "Stargate" movies and tv series. Then again, it also reminds me of "Contact" and the massive "machine" that was built to travel through space and worm holes....

We still have a few weeks to make our own movie to promote fear and doomsayers. We could run with a lead up of events to the starting day, including all of the protestors and people saying it will destroy the Earth, and end the films with multiple fire alarms, earthquakes, and sirens going off throughout the world, then "blip" the world goes black, and disappears by implosion, all seen through the window of the space station.. The remaining astronauts resounding over and over, "what have we (mankind) done??" just before they get sucked into the resultant black hole.. It's a thought...
