Maybe the rum won't run dry on the Malahat, but I grew up in Sidney, and there ain't much there but old folks and fish boats and the rum don't run quite so "freely" .... but if you're into fish oil....

    trade ya a 75 for a 74.....

The last couple of weeks I have been heading north to the thriving metropolis of Mill Bay, home to our northerly neighbours, the Mill Bay Fire Department. We hung out with them at the auto ex. competition last month and we talked about doing some joint practices, which we used to do fairly regularly but have gotten away from in the last couple of years.

As my day job I design business cards, fliers, posters and whatnot. Just for the fun of it, I decided to make them up some nice business cards with their new Engine on the front (Engine 75) and they were met with a huge response. For fun, again, I made them a second set of business cards with their other Engine (Engine 74) on the front (because they keep on at each of their two stations).

Anyhow, they passed them out and a lot of them pulled their E75 cards out and started trading them back and forth like they were hockey cards (baseball cards to our american friends.. ) and it got me to thinking how easy it would be to put out a short series of Fire Apparatus Cards for the area (10-20 departments on the lower island), complete with stats (pump capacity, hp, tank size etc), on the back. Shortly after 9/11 I remember hearing that one of the major card companies, and I can't remember the name, was going to put out something similar with the major FDs (LA, NY, Detroit, etc, etc) but I assume that their enthusiasm ran out (or they never made it to Canada for distribution...).

In addition, I could also do a limited edition "Crusty Collection" (of course, I would have to get permission from the BOD, and we would have to finalize an IACOJ logo as well as establish a selection process for who gets a card made, etc).

I just thought I would put my idea out there and see what everyone thought.
