So, Artie, you like what you have seen with Ivan? I thought the throwdown on Jeter was excellent. Granted I didnt like the outcome but it was a great throw. I have been impressed with what I have seen from him this series.

Good choices all around, I went with a utility infielder simply because I needed a place to put Pete Rose, same with the DH (which I hate) but I needed a place to put Ruth. As far a Ruth as starter he simply did not have enough years at the position to make my list. I struggled with Nolan Ryan as he is my all time favorite player but his lack of post-season play makes his choice difficult. I also love Pudge but I think he needs some longevity before I go with him. My rationel for going with Yogi is because Casey Stengel said that of all the players on his Yankee roster (which included Dimagio, Mantle, Ford etc.) Berra was the one player he would single out as the key to those teams. (I also put Johnny Bench as a close second at catcher). I flipped a coin at manager because I couldn't decide between McCarthy and Casey.

          Yeah Shawn,

          A career .304 avg.

10 straight gold gloves, tied with Johnny Bench.

Highest caught stealing percentage (1999): 54.2%

First American League catcher with 30 home runs, 100 RBI, and 100 runs scored (1999): 35 HR, 113 RBI, 116 R

          AL MVP: 1999

And in this post season: 3 HR, 17 RBI batting .314.

Can you say first ballot HOF?

            The Babe:

            W 94 L 46 Pct.671 Shutouts 17 Innings 1221
            Hits 974 Runs 398 Earned runs 309 Srikeouts 488 Walks 441
            ERA 2.28

29 straight scoreless postseason innings, a record broken by only Whitey Ford.

I needed a place to put the Babe also and in my mind DH doesn't exist.

Isn't it interesting that you have Rose in as an outfielder and I have him as an infielder, shows the amazing versatility of the man. He is also the only player I can recall to play all 4 infield positions (although I am sure there are others).

September 8, 1965: Bert Campaneris plays all nine positions against the Angels.

August 13, 1962: Bert Campaneris pitches ambidextrously in a relief appearance. Campy throws lefty to lefthanders, and switches when righthanders come up.

Yes folks, he was a switch pitcher!!!

                            Speakee English please! hehehe

OK I do recognize some of those names, I'm not that dense! And I think I know what the most of the stats mean, finally figured those over the past few years except for the averages .... NOT going there!

                            W 94 L 46 Pct.671 Shutouts 17 Innings 1221
                            Hits 974 Runs 398 Earned runs 309 Strikeouts 488 Walks 441
                            ERA 2.28

What's pct? What's earned runs mean?

What's a Golden Glove awarded for?

Highest caught stealing percentage (1999): 54.2% What's that mean precisely?

I used to be soooooooo in love with Robbie Alomar

What the heck is a Utility infielder?

                            THANKS!!!!

I'll try to help you out here.

What's pct? What's earned runs mean?
THE PCT. IS THE PERCENTAGE OF VICTORIES VERSUS LOSSES

EARNED RUNS ARE THE RUNS SCORED THAT ARE ACTUALLY CHARGES TO THE PIRCHER. UNEARNED RUNS ARE RUNS THAT SCORE, AFTER AN ERROR HAS BEEN MADE THAT WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE PITCHER OUT OF THE INNING. IN OTHER WORDS, RUNS THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE SCORED.

What's a Golden Glove awarded for?
GOLDEN GLOVE AWARDS ARE GIVEN TO PLAYERS AT EACH POSITION WHO HANDLE THE MOST CHANCES AND COMMIT THE FEWEST ERRORS.

Highest caught stealing percentage (1999): 54.2% What's that mean precisely?
THE PERCENTAGE OF BASE RUNNERS THROWN OUT BY THE CATCHER. THE HIGHER THE PERCENTAGE, THE MORE BASE RUNNERS CAUGHT TRYING TO STEAL A BASE.

                              Hope this helps some.
