Officers Placed On Administrative Duty

A 31-year-old Detroit man is in the hospital after trading gunfire with police.
Investigators said the man fired at two officers who had asked him to move his car. The vehicle was blocking traffic outside a nightclub.
The officers returned fire as the man drove away from a gas station.
He checked into a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was listed in serious but stable condition. Charges against him were pending.
Authorities said the man admitted he didn't know he was shooting at the police. The officers were wearing street clothes and driving an unmarked car.
The officers have been placed on administrative duty.

My question is why would you be wanting to shoot at someone just because they "asked you to move your car"?
