I Cant Believe Some People!!

So there I was....working the Midnight shift as a 911 Dispatcher..We were farely active that night..so its about 4:30am finally got some down time...the phone rings...I answer the phone say my little speech....and next thing you know the person on the other end goes....Excuse me Dispatcher...Could you please tell your officers to speak up...I go EXCUSE ME??? He goes....Yes sir, can you please tell your officers to speak up because I cant hear them on my police scanner. I go WHO IS This...they go Oh no one important...So I said Well if your no one important you dont need to know where im sending my officers now do you? He's like ohh okk well I guess I have to turn my scanner up then. I couldnt believe it...I had to play the tape back for the SGT when he came in. We all got a good laugh but I couldnt believe someone calling that early in the morning to say that... I didnt know whether to be mad or laugh.... Sorry I had to vent lol...

another story...

A story from Halloween 2001…

Every year for Halloween, my department hosts a costume contest and give out popcorn and whatever else we have at the station. I grabbed some goodies from the tables set up in the fire hall to take down to the dispatcher (I like to keep them happy). I happened to walk in right at the time when she needed to turn on the CD sirens to signal the official start of the city’s trick-or-treating hours. Now, as usual, the phones start ringing off the hook with people wondering why the sirens are sounding (although this is a tradition which has gone on for as long as I’ve lived here). One caller, who was still worked up about the recent WTC attacks, proceeded to argue that the sirens were not to signal the start of trick or treating but were really sounding because the terrorists were attacking again. Needless to say, this was an interesting conversation to overhear.
