LARGO - A veteran firefighter with Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue has been arrested on a charge of sexual battery.

David Impagliatelli, 35, of Largo is accused of taking an intoxicated man to his home early Friday morning and assaulting him while he was asleep.

According to the arrest affidavit, Impagliatelli abused the victim several times before the man realized what was happening.

The alleged victim then left the home and called police.

The affidavit also said Impagliatelli told police he was drunk and "cannot remember what happened. If it did, I owe him an apology."

Impagliatelli was arrested on a felony charge Friday by the Largo Police Department. He remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday, held on $50,000 bail.

Reached at home Saturday, Pinellas Fire and Rescue Chief John R. Leahy Jr. said he knew Impagliatelli had been arrested but didn't know any of the details.

"It doesn't sound like him, that's for sure," Leahy said.

Impagliatelli has worked for the fire department for about 10 years, Leahy said.

The fire chief refused the St. Petersburg Times' request for Impagliatelli's personnel file, saying the agency's administrative office was closed.

Formerly the Indian Rocks Fire District, the Suncoast district serves 12,000 homes and businesses in Indian Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, Belleair Beach, Belleair Shore and a portion of mainland between Ulmerton Road, 94th Avenue N, 131st Street N and the Intracoastal Waterway.
