  • Kentucky-Deputy State Fire Marshall Arrested

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A deputy state fire marshal has been
arrested for allegedly robbing a department store and for
    impersonating a police officer.
The marshal, Joseph Ernest King, 32, of Hopkinsville, and a J.C.
Penny store employee were arrested Monday night after they
allegedly were seen taking merchandise out of the store.
When the two were stopped by the store's security officers, King
allegedly struck one of the officers, knocking him to the ground,
according to the arrest report. King also showed the security men a
    badge.
King, and the store's employee, Roland Butler III, 27, of
Hopkinsville, then left the scene, the report said.
Both men were arrested at 10:34 p.m. CDT. Butler and King were
each charged with second-degree robbery. King was also charged with
    impersonating a police officer.
Both men were released Tuesday from the Christian County jail on
their own recognizance, a jail spokesman said.
Ken Meredith, deputy commission and spokesman for Kentucky
Housing, Buildings and Construction, said that King's status as a
deputy fire marshal - one of 50 throughout the state - remains
    unchanged.
"We are waiting to see what the charges are and to allow the
justice system to take its course," Meredith said Meredith.
