Turtles kept lost Peruvian fishermen alive
LIMA, Peru, June 11 (Reuters) - Three Peruvian shark
fishermen lost at sea for 59 days survived by eating turtle
meat and drinking the reptiles' blood, a newspaper reported on
    Friday.
The men set out on March 25 in the Pacific Ocean in a
    fishing boat without radio equipment.
They soon ran out of food and turned to eating turtles
caught from the boat, El Comercio reported.
The sailors tried drinking the water in the radiator of the
ship's engine but quickly realized it was toxic and turned to
    turtle blood instead.
"Thanks to training on a survival course, we also knew how
to heat salt water to give us half a liter (2 pints) of
drinking water every day," fisherman Manuel Ramirez told El
    Comercio.
An Ecuadorean ship rescued the men some 700 miles (1,125
km) from the Peruvian coast on May 23. Each had lost 22 pounds
    (10 kg), the paper said.

Cause: Lady of the house was cooking and the pan of grease she was using caught fire.
Said lady threw pan from stove to sink and promptly turned on the faucet causing said grease fire to light her kitchen window curtains on fire. In trying to knock down the flaming curtains, homeowner threw the still burning pan of grease into the basement and burning grease splattered starting hanging clothes on fire. Fire in basement went unnoticed until lady went downstairs to get laundry. Lady found basement fully involved and called fire department.

                    House complete loss.

Hope Clarke, 32, was removed from the ship after a spot security check in Miami revealed she had not paid a $50 fine last summer for leaving a bag of marshmallows out at a Yellowstone Park campsite. Clarke insisted in court that she paid the fine with her credit card — and the judge agreed after looking over the paperwork.

Veterans official to stand trial in toilet near monument flap

                          (Richeyville-AP) -- A Washington County veterans affairs
official will stand trial on charges he threatened a volunteer
fireman with a gun after workers setting up a firefighters'
carnival put two portable toilets close to a veterans' memorial
                          just before Memorial Day.
But a district justice has dismissed the most serious charge
faced by that the official -- attempted homicide.
Fifty-five-year-old Gary Mucho was fired as director of the
Washington County Veterans Affairs Office a few days after the May
29th incident in Richeyville, about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh.
But Mucho still faces one felony count -- aggravated assault --
although his attorney hopes to resolve that charge through a plea
                          bargain.
Mucho doesn't dispute pulling gun on a volunteer firefighter
because he was upset about where the toilets were placed and wanted
them moved. Mucho has a permit to carry the weapon.
The firefighters couldn't move the toilets because chemicals in
them used to treat human waste could spill in the process.
The firefighters' carnival usually doesn't overlap with Memorial
Day, so the toilets haven't been an issue in the past -- even
though they're usually placed by the war memorial.

Police: Bank Robber Forgets Getaway Car

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) -- File this one under "stupid robber tricks." Police say Knute Falk remembered to bring a loaded gun, a bag to cart off his cash and a bandana to cover his face when he went to rob a Bank of American in Beaverton.

He got away with $188,655, a good haul for a day's work for a bank robber, police said.

But then he'd forgotten a crucial piece of any heist - a getaway car, parked in close proximity. His own car was several blocks away, reports said.

So Falk, 54, demanded car keys from Steven Sturtevant, a bank customer.

"When he took the keys, he said, 'I will leave them under the front seat,' " a puzzled Sturtevant told The Oregonian newspaper. "He was very polite."

Only problem was, Falk couldn't figure out which key opened up Sturtevant's car, according to reports. So he took off the mask, and went back into the bank to inquire, Sturtevant said.

                              Big mistake.

After he finally got the car open, Falk took off, passing Beaverton police Officer Sean Todd along the way. Todd received signals from the tracking device planted in the stolen loot, and tracked Falk down within minutes.

Falk confessed during a subsequent interview with Beaverton Detective Dennis Marley, according to an account filed in federal court.

He has been indicted by a federal grand jury on armed bank robbery and is in a Multnomah County detention facility.

It was his first robbery, he told Marley.

He was out of cash, he said, and he wanted to "rob a bank to get some."

Doctor Jailed for Billing for Sex
PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - An Oregon doctor, who had sex
with a patient and then charged the state about $5,000 for his
"treatments," has been jailed for 60 days and stripped of his
                                license, officials said on Friday.
Dr. Randall J. Smith, 50, told the woman that massaging her
"trigger points" would ease her pelvic pain. The treatments led
to sexual intercourse and Smith billed the Oregon Health Plan
for the 45-minute sessions at the Adventist Health Medical
Group clinic in Gresham, Oregon, near Portland.
Smith must also perform 200 hours of community service and
pay $1,105 in fines and is on probation for 18 months as part
of the plea agreement. He also turned in his medical license.
Though he pleaded guilty to submitting false health care
claims, a felony, Smith maintained the sex with the 47-year-old
                                woman was consensual.
Adventist repaid about $5,000 to the state, David Russell,
clinic administrator for the hospital said.
