    BMW Drivers Get Most Sex?
BERLIN (Reuters) - BMW drivers have more sex than owners of
any other cars and are much more active than Porsche drivers, a
new German car magazine has found.
The German magazine "Men's Car" found in a survey of 2,253
motorists aged 20 to 50 published in its inaugural May issue
that male BMW drivers say they have sex on average 2.2 times
each week while Porsche drivers have sex 1.4 times per week.
Following BMW drivers were Audi (2.1), Volkswagen (1.9),
Ford (1.7) and Mercedes (1.6). Drivers of foreign car makes
were also behind BMW with Italian cars (2.0), French (1.9),
Japanese (1.8), Swedish (1.6) and Korean cars (1.5) trailing
    after.
Among women, French car drivers were top with 2.1 times per
week followed by Audi (2.0), Italian (2.0), and BMW (1.9) with
Porsche again at the bottom of the scale at 1.2 times per week.

    • Sorry, This Brothel Needs an Apprentice...
BERLIN (Reuters) - The German government's plans to levy
fines on companies that fail to hire trainees will also be
applied to legal German brothels, Der Spiegel news magazine
      reported Sunday.
Brothels failing to employ a certain number of apprentices
will not be exempted from the financial penalties that
Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's government wants to introduce on
all companies later this year, the magazine said.
The legislation drafted by the Social Democrats and their
Greens coalition partners will fine companies that do not have
one apprentice for every 15 workers.
Several members of the Greens party tried to allow an
exemption for prostitutes but the Education Ministry
responsible for the legislation blocked that, arguing it "would
cause considerable difficulties," Der Spiegel said.

      • Father's Pardon Saves Prince from Execution
RIYADH (Reuters) - A Saudi prince has been saved from the
executioner's sword by a last-minute pardon by the father of
the teen-ager he murdered, Saudi papers said Sunday.
Prince Fahd bin Nayef, a minor Saudi prince aged 19, stood
blindfolded and ready for death Saturday at the public square
where Saudi Arabia routinely beheads murderers, rapists and
        drug smugglers.
But, according to the daily Asharq al-Awsat, when he
uttered the words "Free me, for the sake of God, and may God
free you from hell," the father of murdered youth Munthir
al-Qadi relented and decided to pardon the prince.
Prince Fahd shot al-Qadi dead with a machinegun in the
streets of Riyadh two years ago after Qadi, who was 17 at the
time, had a heated argument with one of the prince's brothers.

family, implements strict Islamic sharia law by beheading some

Police Use Sweet Tactics to Curb Drunken Brawls
LONDON (Reuters) - Drunken brawlers beware -- the weapon of
choice for police in the southern England seaside town of
Bournemouth is chocolate rather than truncheons and handcuffs.
In an effort to reduce alcohol-related violence, police in
the southern county of Dorset are handing out chocolate bars to
late-night revelers as they leave the town's bars and clubs
during the current three-day holiday weekend.
The government has launched a crackdown on heavy drinking
in towns and cities across the country, aimed particularly at
          the young.
"The reason for most alcohol-related violence in
Bournemouth is that people get frustrated, then aggressive,
waiting for either food or a taxi home," said police constable
          Ian Curtis.
"By giving them something to eat as they leave bars and
clubs, we hope to distract people from causing trouble by
fulfilling one of their main needs -- food -- and giving them
          something else to do."

          • Bee Attack

Brazil bee attack kills two men
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Firefighters recovered the bodies
of two men on Monday who had been killed in a rare bee attack.
They were among a group of nine people who were hiking Sunday in
the Serra Do Caraca state park about 600 kilometers (400 miles)
west of Rio de Janeiro when they were attacked by a swarm of bees,
said Sgt. Wellington Horta of the Minas Gerais fire department.
Initially, firefighters believed the men were lost in the woods,
but on Monday they found the bodies of the two, 26 and 31 years
old, at the bottom of a waterfall.
"Their bodies were full of bee stings which suggests they died
from the bee attack and didn't drown, but we'll only know after an
autopsy can be conducted," said Horta, by telephone from Belo
            Horizonte, the state capital.
The bees also attacked rescue workers, slowing down the recovery
of the bodies. Bee keepers eventually had to be called in to
            complete the operation.
According to Horta, the area is known to have a lot of bees but
such attacks are rare. Firefighters do not know what set off the
            attack.

            • FLAGLER BEACH, Florida (AP) - It didn't make it across the
Atlantic, but 7-year-old Dylan Goodman got a long-distance answer
to a message put in a bottle that was thrown in the ocean.
His floating note sent March 4 said: "Hi. My name is Dylan. I'm
7 years old and if you find this message, please write back."
A surprising reply, postmarked from Jork, Germany, several weeks
later had the first-grader, his family and friends wondering how
the bottle could have made the 4,637-mile journey.
What the message didn't say was that the bottle made only a
              short trip.
"I found the bottle in Flagler Beach," explained Sybille
Lohse, who answered the youngster's note. The bottle was found in
mid-March and Lohse took it home with her when she returned to
              Germany.
The reality was disappointing to Dylan's mom, Kelly Goodman.
"In a way, I wish we never knew that," she said Saturday.
"But I guess the mystery is solved. It was kind of bizarre that it
              would get there that quickly."

              • Big is beautiful

SAMPHRAN, Thailand (AP) - A former model who once weighed a mere
115 pounds before more than tripling her weight was crowned Jumbo
Queen at an annual pageant where big is beautiful.
Dressed in billowing silks, the 20 contestants sashayed down a
stage Saturday and climbed on a weighing scale before showing off
talents ranging from Indian dance to lip synching songs.
At nearly 375 pounds, Bangon Waiyawong was a clear winner in
weight, beating the second placed Sirirat Wongknongwa by 63.93
                pounds.
Bangon, dressed in a mauve skirt and flowing orange crepe wings
attached to the shoulders, got the audience rocking with her
                performance of a disco dance.
"The way I danced ... I did things the judges didn't think I
could do," Bangon said after being crowned.
The 34-year-old Bangon is the owner of a beauty shop and trains
aspiring contestants in conventional beauty contests.
The Jumbo Queen event was staged at the Samphran Elephant Ground
and Zoo, 25 miles west of Bangkok, as part of the zoo's annual
Jumbo Banquet elephant feast. The event is aimed at highlighting
                elephant conservation.

Airline Passenger Finds Frog in Her Salad

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- Australian carrier Qantas said Tuesday it has changed its lettuce supplier after a passenger on a flight from Melbourne to Wellington found a live frog in her greens.

The one-inch Australian whistling tree frog didn't get a chance to hop away. The woman plunked the lid back on her meal preventing any escape.

The Qantas plane's crew notified the Quarantine Service while the plane was still in the air and officials were waiting when it landed at Wellington Airport.

"I'm afraid the frog was euthanized" in a freezer, service general manager Fergus Small told National Radio.

Quarantine officials made a check of the airplane "but no other frogs were detected," he said.

A Qantas spokesman told National Radio that the airline had changed its supplier since the February incident. Tree frogs were common in the area where the lettuce was grown.

Mythical Monster Placed On Endangered Species List

                      POSTED: 8:05 a.m. EDT May 4, 2004

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Government officials in Sweden want to know why a mythical monster is on the nation's endangered species list.

Legend has it that a giant serpent, similar to the Loch Ness Monster, lives in Sweden's fifth largest lake. The creature was placed on the endangered list by a provincial environment court.

The listing came to light when a businessman applied for a permit to collect and hatch monster eggs. Parliamentary officials say the application was probably a joke, but was turned down because the lake monster has been a protected species since 1986.

The investigation will determine just how the monster was placed on the endangered species list and whether it belongs there.

                        • 80-year-old man held in assault, arson

NIAGARA FALLS - An 80-year-old man wearing a ski mask and carrying a voodoo doll entered a Main Street business Wednesday and threw gasoline on an employee before igniting the office with a flare gun, police said.
Otis G. Rodriguez of the 2100 block of Main Street, previously convicted of first-degree manslaughter, had verbally threatened the employee after he was evicted last Thursday from property he was renting from her husband, according to police and court records.

Emma H. Chapman, 54, was behind the counter at Rainbow Property Management, 1514 Main, when Rodriguez "entered her business, threw gasoline on her and her business, fired a flare gun at the gasoline, igniting it and fled the scene," according to a police report. When the gun was fired, Chapman ducked. The flames ignited a computer and the countertop.

A man and a woman had entered the business after Rodriguez. One called 911 while the other extinguished the flames by throwing water on them. No one was injured.

Though the man was wearing a mask, goggles and gloves, Chapman told police she recognized him, she told police.

Chapman, the wife of Jerry Chapman, owner of the rental agency, said Rodriguez threatened her last week.

Minutes after receiving his name from Chapman, Niagara Falls police officers arrived at Rodriguez's home, where neighbors showed them his vehicle, a blue truck matching the description of the vehicle driven away from the business.

Officers found him at a dumpster near his residence where he refused arrest, threatening officers with a machete he was carrying. He was then arrested at gunpoint.

A blue jacket and a flare gun were found in the dumpster and a metal gasoline can was found in his truck, said police.

A voodoo doll found on Rodriguez at the time of his arrest does not appear to be connected to the case, said Chief Detective Ernest C. Palmer.

Rodriguez had been renting five garages on Cleveland Avenue from Jerry Chapman, which he used for storing dogs before being evicted.

He also is the suspect in a December stalking case still under investigation by the city Police Department.

He was previously convicted on two separate counts of first-degree manslaughter, both tried in Buffalo. He received a 25-year jail sentence for the second conviction in 1973, was released in 1990 and was on parole as part of that sentence until 1998.

Rodriguez is being held without bail on charges of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree arson.

                          • Bite the Bullet

Calif. woman reports biting the bullet in hotdog
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A California woman claimed
she swallowed a live bullet and bit into a second round while
eating a hotdog, and says she has the X-rays to prove it.
Police said Thursday they were investigating the bizarre
incident the 31-year-old woman said happened at a Costco store
in Irvine, California, about 47 miles (76 km) southeast of Los
                            Angeles.
"She said she had swallowed one bullet and felt another in
her mouth," Irvine police Lt. Jeff Love said. "She showed us
the bullet and we took it as evidence. We had them cut up all
the other hot dogs and found nothing in the buns."
A spokesman for Seattle-based Costco Wholesale Corp.
said the company had no comment on the incident, which
occurred Sunday and was still being investigated.
The woman showed local television news an X-ray of her
stomach with a bullet lodged in it.
Love said the Hebrew National brand hotdogs served at
Costco were prepared under Kosher laws with a high standard of
cleanliness, and were X-rayed before leaving the factory.
He said it appeared "highly unlikely" that a hot dog would
leave the factory with an undetected bullet in it.

                            • Sculptures of hanged boys shock Italian onlookers
MILAN (Reuters) - Eerie sculptures of three boys in nooses
and hanging from a tree in a busy Milan square shocked
passers-by Thursday and angered some local politicians.
The three life-size dummies of barefoot boys, their necks
roped to the tree and their bodies limp, stared dully into the
distance, drawing double-takes from onlookers and front-page
                              stories in major national newspapers.
"It's horrendous," a woman named Paola told Reuters. "Look
how it's given me goose bumps. My God, but why?"
The sculpture was the latest by Italian artist Maurizio
Cattelan to spark controversy. His works have included a
sculpture of Adolf Hitler kneeling in an empty room in a Munich
museum and a likeness of Pope John Paul II felled by a
                              meteorite.
"Even if it's for a good reason, I find it frightening,
especially for a child or sensitive person," said passer-by
                              Alessandra Pieroni.
City councilor Stefano Di Martino was one of several local
politicians to condemn the work, calling it "a way of letting
                              out people's sick fantasies."
But the artist told la Repubblica newspaper that to him the
boys were "almost angelic" and that he was trying to "give a
warning about childhood and about violence."
"Childhood, this strange place where traumas happen and you
dream incredible dreams, is a place I always return to," he
                              said.
The exhibit, set up Wednesday, will run until June 6.

                              • GERMANTOWN, Wisconsin (AP) - A woman kept about 200 creatures -
including alligators, scorpions and carnivorous beetles - in an
                                apartment in suburban Milwaukee.
Authorities found the menagerie after neighbors had complained
                                about the foul smell.
"The smell was just unbelievable," said William Mitchell, a
state conservation warden who found about 70 ducks cramped in a
basement pen with droppings covering the floor. "It was really
stinking. ... It made my eyes water."
Authorities said the woman fed the animals roadkill. Animal
carcasses were in a freezer and decaying carcasses were in an
adjacent garage. Among the dead animals were raccoons, rabbits,
                                opossums and squirrels.
Jamie L. Verburgt, the apartment resident, was given two state
citations for possessing game animals out of season, Mitchell said.
                                Verburgt's phone number is unlisted.
"She said they were car kills," Mitchell said. "I warned her
that it is illegal to take dead animals off the side of a road. ...
The dead animals were used to feed the live animals, and some were
                                given to flesh-eating beetles."
Among the other live animals found were snakes, rats, turtles
                                and toads.
The live animals were seized by the Washington County Humane
Society, pending investigation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
                                Service, Mitchell said.
Mitchell said federal wildlife officials plan to investigate
those who sold animals to Verburgt through the Internet.
"She intended to sell the animals to pet stores," he said.
Verburgt's boyfriend, John Walters, was prosecuted in 2000 for
                                mistreatment of exotic animals.
At that time, police found a female cougar, female leopard,
silver-tailed fox, monitor lizard, two caracals, a coatimundi,
chinchilla and a reticulated python in Walter's apartment in
                                Greenfield, another Milwaukee suburb.
