  • FORT MYERS, Florida (AP) - The last time Virginia "Ginny"
Moore saw her first husband, in 1944, he was headed overseas to
fight in World War II, wearing a silver identification bracelet she
    gave him.
Marcus L. Comer's name and Army serial number were engraved on
one side, the words "Love, Ginny" graced the other.
When he was killed Jan. 14, 1945, during the Battle of the
Bulge, Moore thought the bracelet was forever lost. But almost 60
years later, the piece of jewelry is back in her life.
Moore, 79, received a call from a Belgian police officer who
said he found the bracelet inside a fox hole in a forest near
    Villers-la-Bonne-Eau, Belgium.
"I was just dumbfounded," said Moore, who remarried. "I
    couldn't believe it. I said, `Please don't hang up."'
The officer, Lorenzo Maierna, told Moore he wants to keep it for
a World War II museum he plans to open to commemorate the
liberation of Belgium from the Germans.
Moore said she had been thinking a lot about the bracelet and
she would like to get it back.
"I feel like it's part of my husband," she said. "And I'd
like to just hold it in my hand."

    • November 11, 2003 -- Egypt's foreign belly dancers have been given their marching orders. The government says it wants to protect homegrown practitioners of the seductive Middle Eastern dance form and is no longer granting new work permits to foreign dancers or renewing existing ones. The victims, who include Europeans and Americans, say it's unfair and illogical, and they are backed by one of the Arab world's most respected dancers, Nagwa Fouad, who is urging the government to reverse its ban. "There is not enough Egyptian talent, so obviously, people need foreigners," said Fouad, who retired from dancing in 1997 after four decades.

Dangling German spider sparks robbery alert
BERLIN, Nov 11 (Reuters) - German police rushing to
investigate a suspected supermarket robbery discovered the
culprit to be a small spider which had set off an alarm while
dangling from its web, authorities said on Tuesday.
"Police, security personnel and the head of sales arrived at
the scene but were unable to find any evidence of a break-in.
Then they spotted the spider hanging by a motion alarm sensor,"
said a spokesman for police in the eastern town of Grimma.
Police then relocated the arachnid to a less sensitive area.

VIENNA, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Austrian police said on Tuesday
they had arrested a man suspected of encouraging people over the
Internet to kill themselves for his own sexual pleasure.
In a statement, Austrian police said the man "obviously
intended to push other people to commit suicide in order to
arouse himself sexually," adding that none of the people he
            contacted had killed themselves.
In his last Internet conversation, the 34-year-old tried to
convince a woman to have sex with him and then kill herself,
police said. If she then could not bring herself to commit
suicide, the man said he would strangle her and slit her throat.
"He gave tips on hanging and kept asking to be at the
            suicide," police said.
The man was arrested at his computer. When asked about his
motive, he said he wanted to see how far he could go, police
            said.

              • SEATTLE (AP) - Promoters insist it's performance art. Detractors
say women are getting a raw deal.
Whatever the case, the controversy over the Bonzai nightclub
serving sushi on nearly naked women isn't about to fade anytime
                soon.
"It's dehumanizing, the manner in which people are buying and
selling sushi to be eaten off a woman's body. It's dehumanizing to
be treated as a plate," said Cherry Cayabyab, president of the
local chapter of National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum.
If the club persists, she and other activists plan to launch a
media campaign - apparently the first organized opposition to naked
                sushi in the United States.
Promoters and customers counter that the monthly naked sushi
                night at Bonzai is art.
The practice, which began in Japan and also has spread to Los
Angeles and New York, involves sushi placed on clear plastic wrap
over the torso of a model wearing nothing more than a thong and a
                few flower petals.
Bonzai patrons pay a $5 cover charge, buy a drink and pick their
way through salmon, ahi tuna, eel and California rolls. Seven
                models work in half-hour shifts.
Chef and owner Jun Hong and promoter Cheresa Nemitz enforce
rules that include respect for the model, no talking to her, and no
                hooting or yelling.
Critics at the university Women's Center say it still promotes
                violence against women.
"It provides a forum to see a human being as an object - and
when women are viewed as objects, they are more likely to be
violated," said Norma Timbang, executive director of the Asian and
Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center.

                • LAPORTE, Ind. - A truck driver crashed his semitrailer while
trying to change clothes as he drove at 60 mph on a northern
                  Indiana highway.
Terry Gilmore, 59, of Ohio, told investigators he had set his
cruise control so he could change while driving on U.S. 6 Monday
night, the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department said.
He misjudged a curve and rolled off the road and into two
fences, police said. Gilmore was not seriously injured, but was
taken to LaPorte Hospital as a precaution.
The crash caused officers to close a portion of the road for
                  more than three hours.
A witness told investigators she found Gilmore naked when she
went to check on him right after the accident. No charges were
                  filed, police said.

                  • NEW DELHI, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Indians hunting for a
sweetheart can now dispatch their profiles by mobile telephone
to a Web site that promises to generate compatible matches.
A marriage portal seeking to tap India's surging population
of 25 million mobile phone users launched a new SMS text
                    messaging service on Wednesday.
Most marriages are arranged either through relatives or
newspaper advertisements in the nation of more than one billion
people who continue to be traditional in such matters, despite
the inroads of modernity in large cities.
And mobile phones are all the rage, with people using them
to do business or merely to make a fashion statement. Analysts
expect the number of mobile users to reach 100 million by 2005.
"Indians are such heavy users of SMS, so finding a life
partner through a mobile was a logical extension," J.
Murugavel, chief executive of Web site BharatMatrimony.com,
which launched the service, told a conference.
"We've called it 'Fifty-Fifty' because you are one half and
are looking for the other half."
Murugavel said he expected a million people to sign up for
                    his service within six months.
But the launch of an MMS or picture message service
providing users with glimpses of prospective matches, will have
to wait three months more, since few mobiles are set up for
                    it.

Barbara Garcia, 51, a retired nurse in Hobart, Indiana,

                        her husband, Cipriano.
Police say she laced his soup with insulin on Oct. 30, then
repeatedly injected him with the substance while he slept until
                        he died.
While his body sat in the couple's garage, Garcia had her
hair done and passed out Halloween candy the following day,

discovered and she was charged with his murder this week.

Schultz-Hurt said neither money nor jewelry went missing. The
burglars also left behind the standard, more popular dress sizes,
Schultz-Hurt said. Taken were mainly sizes in the 1 to 2 range, as
                              well as several 22-plus sizes.
"I'm baffled. I'm just so in shock," she said. "Who would do
                              this?" And for what purpose?
"It is strange," Sherrill said, who added police have no
                              suspects.
It's the second time the store has been burglarized since it
                              opened in 1992.
On Sept. 3, 2002, about $5,000 in money and jewelry was taken,
                              Schultz-Hurt said.
"We are having a security system put in here for sure," she
                              said.
