July 30, 2003 -- A 90-year-old Oregon woman fed up with the cockroaches in her bedroom began roasting them alive with a portable blowtorch - and nearly burned her house down.
Firefighters in Kenton raced to the home of Ona Bates to find flames pouring out. The home sustained $4,500 in damages.

"I've heard this one before. I don't know where they get the idea to do it," Fire Bureau spokesman Neil Heesacker told The Oregonian.

Never underestimate human stupidity. A 28-year-old guy called 911 threatening suicide. His method? He swallowed several nitroglycerin pills, prescribed for a heart condition, and repeatedly slammed himself into the wall, trying to make himself explode.

Reminds me of my first working fire. Seems like the homeowner had a problem with several bee nests in his attic. He decided to use a blow torch to burn them out. We arrived on scene to find the roof had already self-ventilated. 1st FF up there, looked in the vent window and said he could see flaming bees flying around, landing on different spots, spreading the fire.

like I said, "stupid should hurt"

                            ANOTHER ROACH STORY

A bid to beat the record for domino toppling was foiled when a cockroach pushed one of the tiles and sparked a chain reaction that knocked down tens of thousands more.
Ma Lihua, 24, of Beijing spent weeks setting up 350,000 dominoes for the feat, then watched in horror as the bug wreaked havoc.
