    PLEASE SIGN... NEVER FORGET

If realized, current LMDC and Port Authority transportation and infrastructure plans for building at the WTC site will compromise nearly 70% of the bedrock South Tower footprint and nearly 10% of
the bedrock North footprint. In response, The Coalition of 9/11 Families has nominated the WTC Tower Footprints to be preserved down to bedrock as a National Historic Landmark.

We need your signatures on the petition link below to
support this nomination to Gale Norton, Secretary of the Interior
to enter the Tower Footprints in the national registry.

Click below to sign the online petition and forward
this email to friends and family. Survivors, rescue workers and all
Americans are invited to show their support for the WTC memorial to incorporate the WTC Tower footprints to bedrock by signing this petition.

    United in remembrance,
    Anthony Gardner

    PETITION STATEMENT

To: Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, National
    Park Service, and
    Governor Pataki

We, the undersigned September 11th families, survivors, rescue workers and concerned Americans, support the Coalition of 9-11
Families' National Historic Landmark nomination of the bedrock footprints of the World Trade Center North and South Towers and we urge Gale Norton, the Secretary of the Interior, to protect and preserve this modern-day Gettysburg.

The significance of the bedrock footprints is undisputable. The footprints have an indelible and justified place in American
history. At this point, the LMDC and Port Authority have made no formal decree to preserve the bedrock footprints - memorial boundaries are set at 40 feet above bedrock, thus creating artificial footprints.

Current and future generations should have access to a Memorial site which is authentic, not merely symbolic. Visitors should be able to stand on this American battlefield. As evidenced in the pictures provided by the Coalition of 9/11 Families, there are beams from the Tower footprints encased in bedrock. An authentic, historical document of where the Towers stood still exists and must be preserved.

US Goverment owns the airspace 2000' and up. Thats the only cap on the current hieght, technolgy is not.
Manhattan is within Class B airspace so the US Government "owns" the airspace down to the surface.

There is no federal mandate on hieght requirements other than any structure imposing on FAA controlled airspace must get the proper paperwork, inspections and waivers from the FAA so that the obstacle can be properly documented on aviation navigation charts.

i.e. If the paperwork was done right you could technically make a tower 5000' feet high--

                        A PASS ALONG...

Thank you all for your interest in Imagine New York.
As you may know, the week of Nov. 17, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation will announce eight finalists for the memorial at the World Trade Center site.
Imagine New York is planning a series of public workshops in Lower Manhattan to allow the public to give feedback on the new designs. The workshops will feature an optional visit to the exhibit of the final designs at the Winter Garden, followed by a two-hour roundtable workshop discussion. They will take place Nov. 20, 21, and 22.
If you would like to participate in a workshop, please reply to this email with your name, address, and telephone number. You can also call the Imagine NY hotline at 212-750-3972. Once the plans have been released, you will be able to submit your comments online at our website, http://www.imagineny.org, if you can't attend a workshop. Please check our website for more details.

                        Thank you,

                        Seth Johnson

If there are good ones, likewise, make sure you let them know.  See below for our position.

November 17, 2003 -- Just days before eight Ground Zero memorial designs are made public, development officials yesterday criticized a proposed federal study aimed at putting the National Park Service in charge of the tribute. They said a bill introduced in Congress by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan) that authorizes the study could cause delays in rebuilding if it is passed

But Maloney and 9/11 family members said the study is needed to determine whether the Twin Towers' "footprints" should be given landmark status - which could keep anything but the memorial from being built on them.
"We are undertaking a comprehensive environmental review which incorporates the historic nature of the footprints," said Lower Manhattan Development Corp. president Kevin Rampe.
"An additional layer of bureaucracy will not lead to a better result but will serve only to delay the construction of an appropriate memorial."
He warned that decisions about things like the Freedom Tower, a permanent PATH station and the memorial itself could be stalled.Giving the memorial site federal status now could take control away from state and city officials, he added.
On Wednesday, the LMDC will reveal eight finalists chosen by a jury in an international memorial design competition. A winning design will be picked before the end of the year.
The bill, introduced earlier this month by Maloney and Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.), would require the Park Service to complete a study within six months "to evaluate the national significance of the site and the suitability and feasibility of establishing the site as a unit of the national park system."

The bill is backed by the Coalition of 9/11 Families, which wants to preserve the footprints of the Twin Towers down to bedrock - and objects to projects such as an expanded PATH train platform that would encroach on them.,

Anthony Gardner, whose brother, Harvey, was killed on Sept. 11, 2001, said the study would focus on things such as the remains of the Twin Towers' steel columns, which were cut down to bedrock during the Ground Zero recovery effort. "They're the last trace of the original towers on bedrock," Gardner said. "There needs to be a closer evaluation and assessment of what is there before they go ahead and pour millions of tons of concrete on top of these [columns]."

Maloney defended the bill, saying, "A quick rebuilding is a wonderful goal but not at the expense of getting this right."
