Firefighter Arrested For Killing Kitten, Beating Wife

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Instead of saving a life, an Orange County firefighter was arrested for taking one.

Paul Tracy Bragley was arrested on Tuesday after his wife came home to find blood all over their kitchen. Bragley's wife told police he had killed their kitten.

She told police he then beat her and threatened to kill their other kitten.

Bragley is in jail on a $7,500 bond.

... and this has what to do w/ being a fireman?

This is not directed towards you, Malahat, I just don't understand why the writer of this article finds it necessary to say he is a fireman. Whould the writer do the same if he was a lawyer, CPA, waste management technician?

WHY SAY FIREFIGHTER??

A good question PA, I wondered that too, but it only came to me after I posted it. I also don't see the relevance of him being a firefighter, a stock broker or a shoe salesman, other than maybe to say "Firefighter" is to get the story to the front page or something equally inane.

The media has been doing that to "public figures" for years. It appears that if you serve the public in a governmental capacity it will be in the article.

If the guy worked for "XYZ INC.", the article would have probably stated that he worked a a local business.

That's why we have to make our people understand that they play by a different set of rules. The standard is simply higher.

We have a Driver/Examiner Instructor who comes out to do "check rides" with us every so often. His basic statement has always been:

"When you are at the controls of that fire truck, Johnny Q does't care if your Department name has "volunteer" in it or not. If JQ sees you driving, he figures you are a "professional", and he will expect you to conduct yourself accordingly."

In the end it doesn't matter whether you are driving, or doing normal daily "home" related activities.... do something bad and someone will always know or find out that you have a "profession" and will harp on that, and point fingers, as if it's because you are a "....." and it made you do "----". I guess to identify the profession makes good copy in the news or something.
