Nice job! I offer a crisp hand salute!
(Beckley, West Virginia-AP) -- Five Seattle firefighters got to
put their rescue skills to work for real -- in West Virginia.
The four are undergoing training at the Center for National
Response to learn techniques for dealing with accidents inside
tunnels.
As they were returning to their hotel yesterday along Interstate
64 near Beckley (West Virginia), they noticed smoke about a quarter
mile ahead. They found a car on its side, on fire, and with a woman
inside.
While two of the firefighters used extinguishers to try to push
the flames back from the driver, firefighter Todd Rademacher tried
to reach the unconscious woman, whose hair and car seat were
ablaze. He couldn't reach her at first, but yelled at her until she
woke up and reached for him.
A local fire truck and paramedic then arrived to put out the
fire and take care of the woman.
The other firefighters involved were Lieutenant Matt Rogers,
Tony Bennett, Ed Nelson and Mike Todd.
