With all of this talk of the annual Darwin awards, I have the winner. Seen this in the paper last night, but I can't find the artilce online. This happened about 30 miles from me.

A 29 y/o was fishing, caught a small bluegill. He then gets the bright idea to put in his mouth as some sort of a joke. It gets stuck. Call to the paramedics went in as shortness of breath. When they get there, he was blue, and coughing up blood. They had to use a laryngescope and the Magill forceps to pull the now deceased fish from the larynx.

Its a true story, I listened to the call on scanner. I had to listen to the second page to make sure I had heard it right. This happened only about20 miles from us. I am supprised that it made the paper up in your area F18Wub. He was lucky to be alive. He was a long ways from ALS care. Only first responders and a volly BLS ambulance in that area.

It made both the Peoria Journal Star, and the Galesburg paper. I had to read the article more than once, I couldn't belive it. The real question is, who got to keep the fish-the medic, or the idiot?

MACOMB,Ill. (AP) - A fisherman was hospitalized with damage to
his esophagus after a bluegill became lodged in his throat.
Jamie Woods, 29, of Colchester was listed in fair condition
Monday at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Officials said Woods, who was fishing at the time, was playing
with a bluegill in his mouth when it began squirming and lodged
itself in his throat Sunday.
Hospital paramedics and the Colchester Rescue Squad rushed to a
home near Plymouth which is about 20 miles southwest of Macomb. At
the home, they found Woods struggling to breath.
A phone call to authorities indicated Woods was turning blue and
coughing up blood.
The four-inch long fish was wedged sideways inside Woods'
throat.
Using forceps and a lighted scope, the paramedics pulled the
fish out then transported Woods to the hospital.
Police said the fish was dead when it was removed from Wood's
throat.

Makes ya reconsider the dare to swallow live goldfish!

I've swallowed minnows before, but you have to watch out for sticklebacks, they can be nasty! I don't think goldfish could do much damage, their fins are pretty soft.

A bluegill can inflict some painful wounds with their spines. I can't imagine how awful that must have felt!

Woman Retrieving Bees Hit By Car

GREENE, N.Y. -- A 48-year-old woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while retrieving honey bees that had spilled in an earlier crash.

Authorities said Harriet Shore of Greene sustained massive trauma to both legs in the accident, which occurred Thursday night about 20 miles northeast of Binghamton.

Shore was pronounced dead at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.


Investigators said Shore was trying to collect bees that had fallen from a truck after it collided with another vehicle. A third vehicle then hit the truck and struck Shore.
