Haha Kiwi!!! Hey, I respect anyone in any of the armed services who is doing that for the rest of us! Well, the pilots seem to be on to something smart here. It looks like a nice way to get some peace and quiet...even if it is in the middle of the ocean.....
I did my time in the infantry and slept in many a muddy foxhole, but my younger brother one-upped me by joining the Navy. He's been around the world three times, got paid far more, and has it pretty good compared to the old infantry grunts. They set up this kind of stuff on their helicopter deck all the time, and spend weeks on end in Hawaii, Austrailia, American Samoa, etc.
To be fair, he does put it all on the line regularly when he is performing naval boardings in the gulf, but c'mon, Rough life!
Never argue with an Idiot. They drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience!
My mom used to tease my dad about being the tough Marine who came home with a tan from sunning himself by the runway when the pilots were practicing touch and go's at the New River Marine Corps. Air Station in the early 1950's.

I'll have to post some photos of the "steel beach" parties we had in the Coast Guard. The "squids" were always jealous!
We got passed by a Navy destroyer one weekend while underway. The poor suckers on the Navy ship were out swabbin' the deck while we were steel beachin' and fishing. They really looked ****ed off too!
