    New Federal Ambulance specs

    The federal government rolled out new specifications for ambulances today which will affect all those to be built after the first of the year. The specifications come as a result of closed door meetings with several of the presidents top EMS advisor's with little to no input from EMT's and paramedics that will have to operate these vehicles while performing lifesaving interventions on those who call 911 for medical assistance. All most all of the EMS community is against the new standards but their voices have fallen on deaf ears. The new spec's come as a little known part of the Health Care Bill goes into effect midnight Dec 31. The administration says that the new specs will streamline costs and promote job growth. "Many EMS providers don't care for the new designs we have unveiled, especially those who are use to larger vehicles built on Freightliner or International chassis. But we believe that they will be more affordable for agencies to purchase since their EMS collection rates will paid by the federal government at much lower rates than they have been collecting". The picture below was furnished by the White House and is the new standard in ambulance design.

            If you think this health care "reform" bill is bad now...Just wait until it kicks in in 2014, a full 4 years after being passed.

            It is based heavily on the Massachusetts law, and we are starting to suck pond water here. Hospitals closing inpatient floors, laying off nurses, not hiring to replace staff, reimbursements dropping, 6-9 month waits for new PCPs, lower salary increases.

            Just wait until this thing goes national.....that rusty old truck playing ambulance may not be far off considering the cuts to Medicaid and Medicare coming.
