Hey, thought I would tell you Bluegrass fans this.

A few weeks ago, Steven Martin and his bluegrass band were in Eau Claire, WI at the State Theatre downtown. One of my guys on the department volunteers there and he was asking for security help. I got a job guarding a door directly at stage right. Steve Martin and his band came right up to me and started talking just before he went out. I got to chat with him a few times during the show when he walked off and took a break, and then afterwards too. He is good at picking the banjo let me tell ya!! Funny thing was I thought he would be taller...he is my height at 6ft.

Anyway, if you ever get a chance to hear him or his band, do it. Great music!!

For you old timers out there...

Steve Martin was a writer for the Smothers Brothers and Glen Campbell many moons ago...

He played banjo whenever he had the chance.

There is an old video floating around with him playing banjo with Campbell.

He is one of the good guys that never forgot his roots. I had the pleasure to met him many years ago.

              Steve Martin

I guess I have you all beat...I've seen Steve Martin on stage at Disneyland when he first started. Loved him then and still enjoy seeing him.

I've seen Steve Martin in the video for the Earl Scruggs and Friends "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" .
Can't say I still think he's funny(tastes changes as you mature) but he do pick a good banjo.
And if there's a drum kit or electric geetar on stage,it ain't bluegrass!

Well, ol' Larry Cordle is on the lineup. He is from right next door to me in Lawrence County, Kentucky.

Harve, sometime you should make a run down here on US 23, the Country Music Highway. Same road runs through the home counties of Garry Stewart, Patty Loveless, Dwight Yoakam, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Hylo Brown (if you know Hylo you REALLY know your obscure bluegrass artists), Ricky Skaggs, the Judds, and Billy Ray Cyrus. Adjoining counties were the homes of Rebecca Lynn Howard, Keith Whitley, and Tom T. Hall. Always lots of bluegrass gettin' picked around here.
