It was not me. I may be married, but I'm not a steer!
Come to think of it that be why the old boy was on a rampage!

Loose steer does tour of View Royal

By David Karp, Times Colonist July 4, 2010

It took 11 people more than an hour-and-a-half to capture a runaway steer from a View Royal farm on Sunday morning.

The six-month-old animal escaped from a farm near Burnside Road and Quincy Street around 10 a.m. before travelling more than two kilometres. It ran across the Island Highway and along the beach at Portage Inlet, before swimming south across the inlet.

The steer continued across the beach on the southern end and through a residential neighbourhood before reaching Shoreline Community School, on Shoreline Drive near the Island Highway.

It then continued its rampage eastward through a residential neighbourhood in View Royal and Esquimalt before officers finally caught up with it at a trailer park.

“It got into a little drainage ditch and dead-ended right in the park,” said West Shore RCMP Cpl. Mike Holmes, who was part of the chase. “They lassoed him.”

At that point, Holmes, another West Shore RCMP constable, three Victoria police officers, four bylaw officers and two of the steer’s owners were able to drag the animal into the owner’s trailer.

“It was crazy,” said Holmes. “He was pretty big and feisty.”

Holmes said the crazed steer was a very unusual call for police to respond to.

“We’re not equipped for that,” he said. “It’s not like they give us ropes. Even the owner, before he could get his rope out, they had [the steer] sort of corralled on Craigflower and it ran the owner right over and escaped.”

Luckily, the steer didn’t cause much harm, other than a few hoof prints on people’s lawns and some damaged shrubs.

Did it have the same markings as the cow that washed up near Clover Point last year?
