GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Hundreds of church members gathered Sunday near a North Carolina church that burned Saturday night.

Another Baptist church caught fire about a mile away. A break-in was discovered at a third.

Authorities won't say if the fires were arson, but witnesses reported seeing someone fleeing after one of the blazes began. Damage is estimated at more than a million dollars.

One woman who'd been a church member for 23 years said it "was hard to stand here and watch it burn."

Police said they've increased their patrols of churches in Greenville, which is about 75 miles east of Raleigh. Investigators are on the scene.
