  • "Reading" materials in your firehouse...

I thought I would throw this out there for kicks...What type of reading materials can you find throughout your firehouse? It would be interesting to find out what is commonplace and what isn't...In our firehouse you'll find Fire Engineering, Jems, Firehouse, Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Popular Mechanics, a few stock journals, sailing, woodworking, golf and a few other's...The reading materials often reflect the type of personalities you work with or the interests that your brethren have outside of work. Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Stay safe and have a great tour!

We have ther usual trade mags,(firehouse, Fire Engineering, Fire Rescue, JEMS, etc.) along with Maxim, FHM, Sports Illustrated, Reader's Digest, Time, Newsweek, Golf, Car and Driver, Men's Health, Men's Fitness, CondeNast Travel magazine, Ski, Field and Stream and other mags.

Someone always brings in at least one or all of the local newspapers ( he Worcester Telegram and Gazzette, The Boston Herald, the Boston Globe and the MetroWest Daily News).

As far as Playboy, etc. They are brought in and kept in the person's locker. We have a few female firefighters, so maybe there is a Playgirl or two stashed in a locker!
‎"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Well, what else are you supposed to do after cleaning the station, rehabbing the rigs, holding training cooking ,eating and cleaning again? There is only so much good stuff on TV and often if you don't follow whatever sport that the rest of the crew is watching,it is considered gauche to go to the other room and watch something else."We go across a roof as a team,we watch TV as a team, newbie!"is how the saying goes,I think.
You can always sit there with your crew while they watch and moan over the LPGA tour and read a magazine or even the Essentials and improve your mind.
