what kind of load do ur company's/depts use for stretching up a tenement building? my dept currently uses 600 ft of 3 in hose hooked up to a water thief which is hooked to 3 lengths of 1 3/4. Some have us have been wanting to change this because of the weight of the bundled 1 3/4 and the chance of the someone not pulling the 3 inch quick enough leaving us the necessary slack.

we can't go that route in my department because if we need a second line the other engine crew will bring up shoulder loaded hose and hook up to the water theif instead of stretching a second line of 3inch and 1 3/4. In fact only one engine carries that load, the other is a squirt and doesnt even have a tenement load
anyone else???

For long leader-line stretches or a highrise, we use the high rise pack. 200 ft. of single jacket 1 3/4" Neidner with a 15/16 slug & a 2 1/2" X 1 1/2" wye in the bag. 300 ft. of 3" dead lay off the rear. If we have a good crew on all 3 engines, both rear preconnects get uncoupled, shouldered and taken to the floor along with a water thief. (3" deadlay to floor below) Heavy fire would then get 200' of 2 1/2" also attached to the thief. Single jacket is about 20 lbs lighter than the DJ off the rear. Question for nyckftbl - Engine pressure 175 psi?Last edited by kuh shise; 03-10-2011, 11:02 PM.
