That will work and was tought for years, but try this it is a whole lot faster and easyer.
Place the ads end of a haligan bar between the left fender and the hood about middle ways of the hood raise up about 3 inches and reach in and grab the hood cable, give it a good hard jurk and the plastic mounting clip will break on the outer cable housing and the inter cable will open the hood. takes about 30-40 seconds (Works on about 90% of the cars) you have a few that have metal mounting clips.
Some people slide the fork end of the bar over the cable and just keep turning it until the cable mounting clip breaks.

yeah i agree the spreaders are great if workin an MVA were your are already usin them. But me bein on an engine in an area where backyard machanics are the norm, we make alot of car fires. and the halligan, axe and prybar have not let us down yet. Usin a K-12 would be a truck job, engines dont carry em here so it out of the question for me.
Findin that dreaded cable has not been always easy for me but it does work, i rely on the old school. pluse i dont know an officer that would want to use a sparkin tool like the k-12 on a car with someone traped just to many variables, fire and such. but on a car with no one in it checkin for bodies in the trunk or whatever sure why now, knock your self out. thanks brothers345

We try the forks of a halligan through the grill to catch the hood release cable. Once its caught in the forks, the other end conveniently becomes two handles you can use to twist the tool thereby releasing the hood as if you pulled the release inside. After that your on your own for knowing how to finish releasing the latch
