Lexan glass

Hi I was just posed the question during a VE course how to handle lexan glass, and how common is it in new vehicles. Hoping you can help

Lexan glass cutting

The best I have found is to take a circular saw blade and reverse it in the saw. (Teeth face backwards to normal) The friction "cuts" the glass by heat instead of actual teeth and it leaves little dust. Practice this first to get the feel of it. Works great with tools you already have.

-A medium toothed, carbide tip saw blade.
-A CO2 extinguisher and a pick head or halligan.
-Cut the metal around the glass and remove it that way.

D'AX Blade

I have never used this blade, however SureVent the company that makes the Warthog Vent Blade sells the D'AX High Speed Carbide Blade. They claim it cuts Lexan in their brochure and used for auto extrication. If it works as well as the Warthog it should be a great addition to any department for this type of cutting. If someone uses it or has used it give us some feedback.

We used D'AX on a demo unit. Company provided us a armored "brinks" van for an extrication using Amkus tools. The blade zipped like a knife in butter. Didn't have any trouble to mention, normal junk build up in saw guard from the Lexan. It really didn't seem to like the reinforced steel however! Take Care

Lexan Glass

When this glass was being introduced, we at Terc tried diffrent methods of cutting this glass.
The most successful was using a cordless drill with a hole saw first, followed by a recip saw to remove the glass.
