  • Vehicle Airbag Resource Guide

With all the recent vehicle airbag issues, my dept is trying to address this issue at training sessions. The problem we've run accross is the wide assortment of airbags in various vehicles.

Can anyone advise if there is any type of resource that lists all vehicle manufacturers, respective type(s) of airbags used in their vehicles, operations of the airbags, safety messaures, etc. ?

    Any/all assistance is appreciated.
These views/ opinions are my own and not those of my employer/ department.

Holmatro/Mitchell's The Rescuer's Guide to Vehicle Safety Systems has all the information you are looking for, along with how to read VIN numbers, battery locations, capacitor drain down times, types and locations of airbag systems and location of struts on vehicles made from from 1988 to 2001.

Our department uses the Homatro book and SOP is for any airbag equipped vehicle we consult the Guide for drain time on the capacitors and battery location. We have however encountered an instance where the battery location was wrong. So keep in mind that the word that should jump out at you is "GUIDE". Be careful and do not forget your basics.
