Extrication Hand tool jump bag

Along with our new rescue truck we are trying to upgarde our extrication capibility and equipment. We have seen and are assembling a hand tool jump bag. Kind of a inital attack bag if you will for extrication. Do you have a bag like this? If you do what do you carry?

The idea is for that person to be able to accomplish many of the early tasks to speed up the process. i.e. window removal, battery disconnect, securing the vehicle.

We run a motorsport rescue unit here in Ireland. Our rear crewmember takes out a toolbag and an extinguisher as their first out eqpt. The bag contains a 2' crowbar, cable cutters, window punches, sharp knives for window removal and 2 large screwdrivers. It also has a clear plastci sheet for patient protection from glass.

The protocol is for the crew member to isolate electrics and make down initial fire cover with the extinguisher. They then go assist the unit driver who is chocking and blocking. The unit medic along with the doctor gain access to the patient , if rapid access is needed the tools in the bag allow us to break windows, take out perspex etc.

I see what you mean, and we run with something similar. Our IC bag contains a sprung loaded centre punch, life hammer, cable cutters, tire core remover, seat belt cutter and slip jaw plyers. The IC of the extrication team usually carries it and we draw what tools we need from him. Any of the bigger tools, crowbars, window saws, crash axe are held onboard the truck. When we role up on scene 2 or 3 guys will begin setup of the staging area and everything on the rescue truck comes off. Cheers from Malahat. Play safe ya'all.

We have some small yellow tool bags we bought from Boeing surplus. In the main center compartment sits a Glassmaster windshield saw alongside a 24volt Dewalt recip. There are numerous vertical pockets which carry recip saw blades, trauma shears,window punch, and a battery cable cutter. There's also a small highway blanket for covering a patient initially.

Our dept. carries tool boxes (MVA kits) on all of our trucks. They have the pnuematic equipment(air chisel,ratchet,impact gun,regulator, hose, tire inflator), tire deflation tools, sm pry bar, window punch, cable cutters, pliers, screwdrivers, spare 'cip' saw blades, spin wrench, 2 spare hydraulic lines.
It works out great.

We also carry a hand tool bag. I is a soft sided bag with a large center opening and lots of spots for tools on the sides. We store our glass master, center punch, screw drivers, batt. terminal ratchet, pliers, seat belt cutter, tire valve core removal tool w/extra cores and adaptor to refill tires. The bag has a magnetic bottom we added so the bag can be set on the trunk, hood, or roof and can be accessed from either side of the car.

My department opts for tools belts, instead of tools bags or a box. We carry the same basic hand tools, but they are more readily available when they are on your hip.

We use a 5gal pail with bucket pockets. We have found this device allows more flexiblity, better adaptation to new tools as they are introduced, and the ability to carry ALL the hand tools needed (we think!) for a motor vehicle crash plus other incidents as well. This also carries things such as a small tarp, edge pro, rope ratchets, etc.-all handy things usually needed in a hurry and not always thought of!

We use a tool box and named it the "squad box" so there is no confusion. It contains many of the same things mentioned above, but I would skip some of the things mentioned, like air tools, as this adds weight and takes away from the idea of quick and dirty. I do like the idea of the bag with the magnetic bottom and may switch to this. Be safe and work smarter, not harder!

Sawzall, Sheet, Glass saw, Utility knife, and extra batteries for the sawzall. this person is usually the one that will begin removeing the glass once he is done he can use the sawzall on the posts while the tool is working on other posts.
