I have been perplexed with the proper PPE for diesel and other petroleum product spills. I understand the need for turnout gear due to fire/explosion hazards, however, on small spills or strictly oil products, would something other than turnout gear be a better option? I personally feel that tyvek or another material is better suited for spill cleanup as opposed to taking the change of oil based product contaminating the turnout gear. Looking for comments!

What is the scene? stopping a leak? or containing spill? If you anticipate contact with the product AND you can eliminate ALL ignition sources tyvek is a good idea (disclaimer) do you really want to be shrink wrap if it ignightes??? We use xxxlg saranex coated tyvek over structural turnouts OR if flammability is not a concern saranex coated tyvek over a nomex jumpsuit (justincase!). For plugging we've found oversized sleeves of tyvek fit over turnouts fine.
