Looks like Saturn has joined BMW,Mercedes,Volvo, and Audi in offering a roof-rail mounted SIPS. Saw the commercial on TV, and checked it on their website. Saturn calls their's 'Head Curtain Airbags' and they appear to be an option on the S-series,L-series, and the 3door coupes. I'll be stopping at the dealership tomorrow on the way home from work to pick up some brochures and take some pictures

Alone with the Saturn , the Ford Focus offers Door & Curtain airbags on 2000 & 2001 as a option.
As Ron Moore has said before , there will be more.

Interesting note about the Saturn TV commercial. Did anyone actually see the Saturn in the crash test lab get smashed?

No. The commercial was edited to make you THINK that the test car had SIPSbag protection. I don't think it did.

My guess is that the airbag system is optional right now and won't be in full production for some time yet. I'd say they shot the commercial before the technology actually exists. In this manner, and with big bucks being spent on prime time advertising, they can promote the feature and actually see if there is consumer interest in this feature.

That's a good commercial though isn't it! It got our attention.

My first visit was unfruitfull, so I went back to the local Saturn dealer today as they now have some cars on their lot with their head curtain side airbags. Some quick info for you guys: ID marker is a small sticker 'AIRBAG' at the top of the B post. L-series and S-series cars differ in location of the other components. For the L-series, compressed gas cylinder in rear post(like the Volvo) and protection provided for both front and rear seat occupants. For the S-series, compressed gas cylinder is located under the 'instrument panel upper trim panel', right under the top of the dash board panel. The S-series head curtain protects only front seat occupants. Side impact sensors located in the lower B-post near the seat belt spool, and the coupe has its driver side impact sensor in the door. They were kind enough to loan me a training video 'Saturn 2001 Tech Update' which demonstrates deployment of the system and all the component locations. It would probably be a good idea to see the video yourself... Kevin
