  • Telescoping Rams

We are considering buying a telescoping ram. Please give me your opinions of them and experiences, both good and bad.

    Thanks

    Phoenix 25/60 SUPERRAM:

    25 inches closed
    60 inches extended
35,000 pounds of force 1st stage
17,000 pounds of force 2nd stage
    weighs 47 lbs.

The most awsome ram I have ever seen in operation. The competition will tell you it is inferior because it is not designed to pull. What they don't tell you is that ALL rams are not recommended for pulling due to greater potential for side loading the tool.

Phoenix also makes a 14 inch to 26 inch version. Check their website for details:

    I like it! 'nuf said

I'll second what Richard said, although we use the Holmatro Brand rams.
      3340 12" Closed / 23" Open
      3350 21" Closed / 50" Open

You can get the full spec's here Holmatro USA Web Site

Same deal here - they are not meant to pull with (Thats why they sell chain shackles for spreaders).

Thankfully we have yet to use them in a real extrication, but from the few trips to the scrap yard we've had with them I like them.

        Hurst JL Telescoping 30 Ram
        18 inches retracted/closed
        41 inches extended/open

This is an excellent tool for making a small space into a large space, cross-ramming maneuvers, dash displacement, and/or raising a collapsed roof.
