  • SIPS and Thermal Imaging

Just a question to throw out, and hopefully the guys at extrication.com are reading this. During the past week on duty, the discussion turned to Side Impact Airbags. Then it hit me...electricity generates heat. So could a Thermal camera find a control for an airbag in one of the posts? If it doesn't go off is it still tested by the vehicle computer? And does that generate enough heat to be seen w/ a TIC? We're going to try and get a demo camera next week and go to the BMW dealer by the station. But if anybody has done this, lets hear it.

    OK, we'll do it.

Someone post the test parameters and we'll do it Monday the 25th.

Just remeber one thing, a T.I.C. will not see through an object. It senses variations in temperature. Unless the wires are heating up the door panel, it is very unlikely you'll see them.

Also posted this on extrication.com. Ron checked his sources and stated that it would not work. Let's keep thinking for better ways to do things. Stay safe
