  • Your Both Correct

    NRZ 2334,

Your absolutely correct Mineral Oil is not a hazardous material. However, you still have a gasoline powered pump running and you have 5500psi to 10500psi hose lines that are in that hole with you which becomes another hazard. That is unless you have a hand pump or a air pump.

    Bones42,

You also are correct the battery does give off minute amounts of Hydrogen Gas. However, the amounts of gas given off is substantially below the LEL (lower explosive limit) for Hydrogen Gas. The amount given off is the same amount that is given by a motorcycle or ATV. Ground Zero was an extremely hazardous site, and every FEMA Team had one operating there. There were 20 at Ground Zero and 4 at the Pentagon. And if there was any possibility of those gases becoming volitile then there wouldn't be 4 of them surrounding the President in his motorcade or in every Secret Service Vehicle. But, again you are correct it does give off extremely small amounts of gas.

SFD, would you know of any dealers/vendors that will have a PowerHawk unit at NJ State Convention in September? I would like to see one of these first hand as it does sound like a good device. We are looking at adding some additional tools to our RIT vehicle.

      Bones,

PowerHawk will be at the NJ Firefighters Show at the Convention Center. I believe it's around the 11th of September.
