Special operations research

Hello all, I have been put in charge of gathering information to establish a tactical, special ops team to include the following: Rope Rescue, Confined Space, Trench, Building Collapse and HazMat. I am in need of SOG's, training info. Has anyone done a presentation on starting a team. I need start up cost, continuing education requirements etc.. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I can tell you you are talking about large amounts of money and lots of time. We did have a combination team, but we went to a regional to save money. All the career depts specialize in a type of rescue and they maintain the equipment.

One good place to start looking for the training requirements is the NFPA standards. NFPA 1006 has the standards for training for technician level in all the fields you are looking at. Like the previous post, you will be looking at LARGE amounts of money to start up a team to do all of the diciplines.

Another thing to think about, do you want a team that is just familiar with all the diciplines, or a team that is expert in just a few, such as rope and confined space, or trench and building collapse. Get with other departments in your area and see if they are willing to form a team that concentrates on a different area than yours. This would be more cost effective for everyone. Then make sure you have a good mutual aid agreement in effect for all the departments involved.
