I need some information pretty fast and I am not in an area where I can look it up. Does anyone have a student to instructor ratio for technical rescue training? With references..... i.e. NFPA, OSHA etc. thanks
Corey
I've never heard of an official NFPA ratio. CMC uses about an 8:1 and Rigging for Rescue likes to stay around that number also. I've been in some OSHA classes that were more like 200:1.
Great question. Take a look at NIOSH Report F2011-12. It is dated October 5th 2011. Basically in 2011 a FF died during a rope skills class and of the 3 contributing factors listed was Student to Instructor Ratio. The report goes on to say that during practical skills training the ratio should 5:1 and they used the IAFC Fire Service Instructor book as a reference for that number.
Not sure if the NFPA has a recommendation in 1041, the Fire Service Instructor standard, but I would ensure that my instructors are at least certified to that level before they get too far into teaching

Thanks for all the replies. I am in charge of a training program for soldiers, and we train them to operate in a contaminated environment so I have also been using the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 that says 5:1 for field work....... (Level A & B work) I'll look up that NIOSH report to help my case as well.
I've heard that there are services that help solve all the issues in college. That is, if you need to figure out what to do, there are professionals there.
I know what you are talking about, I once asked a similar service for students, here is the link https://samploon.com/free-essays/euthanasia/ where they once helped me with my academic debt and could prepare for entering the University of Georgia. I was still completely green then. There are also a lot of services where administrative problems are solved. It seems to me that you need it there.
