  • ID'L Question

So I've been messing with the new ID'L for a few tours now and I really like it. The only thing I'm slightly confused about is the button on the handle. I can't seem to figure out what benefit it does or doesn't create. Anyone more familiar with this part of the device's function?

The Code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

That button is for horizontal movement. It's a design change Petzl made since the original I'D was introduced. The reason for the change was because on sloping or horizontal terrain or even light loads the anti panic break will activate with ease. Depress this button to make the decent smoother.
This button is not to be used for a vertical decent, doing this would defeat the purpose of the anti panic function.

Good one Deputy! I'm glad I have an old gray model. No button.

                Petzl pics

The damage was caused by doing a low point rappel off a training tower, when member returned to top of tower a deformity was noticed in the metal when trying to re load id for next slide.
