Hi All,
sitting here thinking about my purcell prusiks and wondered what you all think about this variation, pros/cons.
I have had a set of purcells tied mostly conventionally for some time now but with a 3 on 2 prussik for the shock absorber. I like that because it grabs similar to a 3 wrap prusik but breaks more like a 2 wrap. Little easier to use. I don't like the figure 8 (F8) follow through component however and tied some using a double fishermans (DF) for joining the 6mm cordage. See the picture below.
Here are my thoughts:
I like the DF better because it is easier for you to vary the wraps of the prusik (sometimes i like to tie a 2 wrap or 3 wrap). It is easier to tie in my opinion and less time consuming. It uses lesses cordage. I'm not sure about the strength difference (i've put this system into my queue to break on the test bed).
Any ideas on this from anyone who uses purcell's regularly or not? Haven't seen them tied this way by many folks and just wanted to investigate if there is a reason or not...
Thanks,
Mike
