  • Training in Las Vegas?

I was at the 2010 EMS Expo in Dallas found a class for EMS personnel in Las Vegas. It was a decontamination/WMD training outside Las Vegas provided by either FEMA or Homeland Security and was totally funded by a federal grant.

If anyone has info or remembers the application process I'd appreciate it!

We just started sending members there in Febuary. So far we have sent 3, with another 2 scheduled to go in April, and 3 more, including myself, scheduled for May.

There are 2 days of classes in Vegas and then 2 days of practicals Nevada National Security Site about 60 miles from Vegas.

The feds fly you out on Sunday, put you up in a hotel a block from the strip Sun and Mon nights, then you go to the test site Tue and Wed nights, then back to Vegas for Thur night with flyout on Friday.

Gov't gives per diem check for meals and transport to/from airport in Vegas and luggage. Meals are taken care of at the test site.

    Only requirement is Operations level.

Contact phone number is (877) 963-2867 or [email protected]

My class May 16-19 was just cancelled due a lack of a federal budget.

Likely the May 23-26 class, which had 2 members scheduled to attend will be cancelled as well.

They have promised priority on a make-up class when a new budget is approved. With my luck, it will be August!

I came to know about this training and i am really glad to know that it was a big hit and the rope rescue techniques applied and trained by rope rescue teams were really great. Hats off to you guys.

It was at the end of July, which was just as bad.

One day of class in the hotel in Vegas then 3 days at the test site (which is pretty dang spartan) in the high desert south of Vegas. About 50/50 classroom and outside practical.

Excellent class though and you get 3 nights in Vegas on the federal dime.

Awesome class , if your unfamiliar with the application process you can look up your FEMA poc for your region on the FEMA site under the training portion. They will be able to point you in the right direction.

Last two groups that we sent this fall, they reported that the hotel they use in Las Vegas is no longer a couple of blocks from the strip, but is in North Vegas and requires a taxi to get to the Strip.

              Sorta a bummer.
