  • Naval District Washington Fire Dept

I've seen that the NDW Fire Dept has been hiring lately and am curious about the department. How many stations and companies? What is the call volume? Do they run mutual aid with surrounding cities and counties? What is the station moral like and do they have a high turnover rate?

I would think they are a busy department considering the area and see a lot of action. Can anyone who has knowledge of the department give me some inside info as it's a place I think I might apply to next time they have openings? PM me if you don't want to discuss it over the web.

    Thanks

Yes I am current Fed FF. No, not ex-military.

Does anyone know what shift they work? 24/24 OR 48/72?

I would like to apply to a busier dept so I am trying to get info on departments I may be interested in.

        Thanks

Some of the Federal Fire Departments in and around the Metro DC area work the 48/72 schedule. Not sure what NDW works. There are several facebook groups for Federal Firefighters/DoD Firefighters, suggest you join up with those and start asking.

The NDW departments down here work 24/24. I assume that they all work that shift.

Keep in mind that NDW covers a wide range of departments. The call volumes and types of calls that the southern maryland departments that I'm familiar with are probably different than those closer to DC. Also, keep in mind that some of the facilites are a significant distance from DC. The ones that I know of are about 80 miles from DC, so it's not like a DC station at all.

They run a 48/72 schedule. He is actually over at the National Labatory now.
