  • Another AF Fire Protection question

I know theres questions about this job every other day but I haven't been able to find an answer on this one and didn't feel like calling my recruiter just to ask him. My question is what kind of work schedule do you Air Force FFs have?

there are a few other schedules around out there... most of the alternate schedules are being used by civilian departments, but military may be able to work them as well. for the most part, your going to see the 24/24 with a kelly day.

it can be negotiated with management as our guys went from 24 ON/24 OFF and last year switched to 48 ON/ 72 OFF....most guys prefer the 48 ON because some live an hour from work and would rather just do the 2 straight

Federal Firefighters have a few different schedules, but most work a 72 Hour work week.

It seems he is asking about Military-side guys not GS folks.

I can only speak for the Marines at K-Bay in the early 90's. They had a 24 hour shift schedule during regular op temp days and just a skeleton crew for days when there was nothing on the air field schedule.

Most AF Fire Dept. Airmen work the same schedule as the civilians at that Dept. But the Airmen are the first to get screwed out of a Day off due to belonging to Uncle Sam. And no matter how creative you are Most Federal Fire Dept. Have to work 72 Hours a week the worst type of schedule around. Because congress would have to approve something better.
