  • New to FIREHOUSE forums and Volunteer Firefighter

Well, just wanted to say hey to all the people in the forums and the Firehouse communities....I have just recently been accepted as a full member in Volunteer Fire Dept in my area....Would like to hear from any and all who have any advice or just some helpful hints on what makes a good Firefighter....I know that I have taken the right steps to let this dept know that I am here to stay and will be there for any and all who need help .... I feel confident that the people in the dept have seen my desire to learn and dependability on me in the situations we will be in....Hope this all made sense and wasnt rambling...

    Anyway...hello to all ....

Congats on the position. Welcome to the forums.

For now, (not trying to sound snotty) keep your mouth closed and your ears open. This will also help you sort out the folks in your dept that are willing to put in the extra effort to help you learn. It also gives you a chance to find out who the "big talkers" are, if there are any. Anytime someone takes the time to go over something with you, run with it. Nothing is too small to learn at first. You'll do fine.
