Ah well, Richardton has both a city and a rural fire dept. Makes no sense today since they both respond, but in times past there was special funding for rural departments. Typically they would show up with a truck and the farmer had to supply the manpower to fight the fire.
Next town over is Taylor with the same sort of arrangement.

But here in Richardton, we have the Richardton-Taylor Ambulance Service. We are supported by mil levy from both cities and also from the eastern third of stark county, and north into parts of Dunn county.

Hebron Fire and Ambulance covers the last two or three miles along the Stark County Border, mostly because that is the way the roads go.

We used to cover Lefor from Richardton because from Hwy 8 that involved only about eight miles of dirt road, where as for Dickinson to cover it, it would entail about 15 miles of dirt road.

Now that the Lefor Road is paved, it is part of Dickinson territory.

Ambuance territories are appointed by the state Department of Health.

Any experience or thoughts on 4 or 5 small town and rural departments consolidating into one district? Let me know what the circumstances were, where you're at, and what issues arouse! Thank in advance!
