  • Hello from frozen Wisconsin

Hey everyone. I don't know what to say other than to give my background. I'm 18 years old, and am on a volenteer fire dept here in a little town of 4000 called Medford. I like it here even though earlier this year there was a building fire (a bar) and it was so cold the water froze in our hoses so we just stayed warm next to this bar that was burning down. We are just about to get hit by a huge snowstorm so everyone is kinda hunkering down. Hopefully no power lines go down cause it's gonna be cold and I'm on call, but if they do I'll gladly go and help.
I'm going to college to become a full time paid firefighter in a larger city. I start in the fall of 2011 and am looking forward to starting. I will have my fire science degree and I will be a paramedic. Stay safe everyone and (in the infamous words of my fire chief)

    "Don't do nuttin supid."

Welcome from South Central WI. THis is a good site, and a great resource as long as you can sift through all the bull****.
"A fire department that writes off civilians faster than an express line of 6 reasons or less is not progressive, it's dangerous, because it's run by fear. Fear does not save lives, it endangers them." -- Lt. Ray McCormack FDNY

Hahahaha! I'm the new guy on our volenteer dept so you know how that works....
Going to a college today for a mandatory meeting. Chippewa Tech. They only accept 18 a year and the course is so difficult that only 14 graduate (4 drop out). You have to be EMT certified before you can even get accepted. I'm accepted into FVTC (Fox valley) but Chippewa has 100% placement rate. Its gonna be tough but if it all works out I'll have the best job on earth.
