Hi, my name is Joe and I'm not employed yet. I came here and realized that this is the THE forum for firefighters, so I signed up.
I got certified at the Austin Community College Fire Training Academy. Even though I was considered out of state and that made the tuition ungodly expensive, I wasn't willing to pass up the opportunity. New Mexico does not have community colleges with the caliber of training that was offered in Texas. So now I'm hitting hiring processes as best as I can while I wash dishes at a restaraunt for gas money.
Being poor sucks. But this is honestly the career that I am built for. I just need to convince a hiring committee of that now.
